Alright, so, you wanna know about this Blackburn Rovers and Cambridge United game, huh? I tell ya, it was somethin’ else. Folks were buzzin’ ‘bout it, all this FA Cup talk. Don’t know much about these fancy cups, but I know a good game when I see one, even if it’s just on that little telly box.
They kicked off at 3:00 pm on Saturday, January 6th, 2024. Ewood Park, that’s where they played. Said there were 8,311 folks watchin’. Land sakes, that’s a lot of people! I bet it was chilly out there. January, you know, always a bit nippy.
Now, Blackburn Rovers, they’re the ones everyone was talkin’ about. Seemed like they were the favorites, whatever that means. Heard folks sayin’ their line up was somethin’ special, but to me, they’re just a bunch of fellas runnin’ around a field. They had this fella, H. Carter, scored a couple of goals. One in the 23rd minute, another in the 66th. Showoff, I tell ya!
Cambridge United, well, they put up a fight, I guess. This Okedina fella, he scored early, in the 6th minute. Got everyone all excited, but it didn’t last. Then Sigurdsson scored for Blackburn in the 37th minute. Brittain, he got one too, right before halftime, in the 45th minute plus three extra minutes they added on. Land sakes, always addin’ on time, ain’t they? Pickering, that rascal, he scored in the 81st minute for Blackburn.
- Blackburn’s goals: Carter (23′, 66′), Sigurdsson (37′), Brittain (45’+3), Pickering (81′)
- Cambridge’s goals: Okedina (6′)
I heard some folks talkin’ ‘bout the “starting XI” for Blackburn. Sounded all official and fancy. Bench, they called it, for the fellas who didn’t start. Had some names like Hilton, Hill, Gamble… sounded like a card game to me! Tronstad, Ayari, Finneran… fancy names, those boys got. Makes you wonder where their mamas got those names from.
They were sayin’ somethin’ ‘bout watchin’ the game online. “Live stream,” they called it. Back in my day, you went to the game or you listened on the radio. Now, you can watch it on that little box, or on a phone, or even on that “computer” thingamajig. Too much technology for an old woman like me.
Folks were talkin’ about “predictions” and “pre-match odds.” I tell ya, I don’t understand any of that. Just watch the game, that’s what I say. See who kicks the ball into the net more times. That’s how you know who wins. All this fancy talk, it just muddles things up.
Heard some mention of different cups and tournaments. World Cup, Olympics, Euros, somethin’ called Copa America and Gold Cup… Landsakes, there’s a lot of ‘em! I just can’t keep up with all these games. Too many for my old head to remember.
So, Blackburn Rovers won, that’s the long and short of it. Beat Cambridge United. Folks were happy, I guess. Clapped and cheered. Me? I just went and made myself a cup of tea. That’s the real winner in my book – a good cuppa after a long day. These fellas runnin’ around, they can have their cups and their glory. I’ll stick to my tea, thank you very much.
Final score was a win for Blackburn Rovers. Can’t remember the exact numbers, too many to keep in my head, but them fellas in the dark blue did good. Cambridge put up a fight, but it wasn’t their day, I reckon. Sometimes that’s just how it goes.
Now, they’ll be movin’ on to the next round of this FA Cup thing. More games, more runnin’ around. Landsakes, it never ends! But folks seem to like it, so I guess it’s alright. Just hope they don’t catch a cold out there in that January weather.
Anyways, that’s what I know ‘bout this here Blackburn Rovers and Cambridge United game. Not much, I admit, but enough to keep me entertained for a little while. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go check on my biscuits.
