Alright, so you’re askin’ why that Martin Brundle ain’t been around F1 races lately, huh? Well, lemme tell ya, it ain’t as simple as him just takin’ a long vacation. Things change, ya know? Even for them fancy fellas in the racin’ world.
First off, that man ain’t gettin’ any younger. He used to race them cars himself, way back when. Drove for teams like Tyrrell, Williams, even that Benetton. He even won some big races, like that Le Mans thing and Daytona. But racin’ takes a toll on a body, I tell ya. He even had a bit of a heart scare a few years back, runnin’ to talk to that Hamilton fella. So maybe he’s just slowin’ down a bit, like any normal person would.
- He raced for a bunch of teams: Tyrrell, Zakspeed, Williams, Brabham, Benetton, Ligier.
- Won some big races: World Sportscar Championship, 24 Hours of Le Mans, 24 Hours of Daytona.
- Had a “small heart attack” in 2016.
Second thing is, that Sky Sports, where he does his talkin’ now, they changed things up a bit. He ain’t got that same contract he used to have. They’re makin’ him share the job, seems like. He don’t go to every single race no more. They pick and choose, I guess. Maybe they wanna save some money, or maybe they think folks don’t wanna see him every time. Who knows with them TV folks?
Now, don’t get me wrong, Martin’s a good fella. He knows his racin’, that’s for sure. He’s been around it long enough. And he’s got that way of talkin’ to folks, even when they’re busy gettin’ ready to race. He’ll just walk right up to ’em, stick a microphone in their face, and ask ’em whatever he wants. Sometimes they like it, sometimes they don’t. But it’s always somethin’ to watch.
Remember that time he was chasin’ after that actor fella, Brad Pitt or somethin’? Wouldn’t leave him alone! That was somethin’. Or when he almost got run over by that car, just tryin’ to get a word in. He’s got guts, that Martin. Maybe a little too much sometimes!
But things change, like I said. Maybe he just wants to spend more time with his family. He even raced with his son once, shared a car and everything. That’s somethin’ special, ain’t it? Maybe he’s got grandkids now, wants to see them grow up. Life ain’t just about racin’, ya know?
So, next time you see him on TV, don’t be surprised if he’s missin’ a race or two. He’s still around, just not as much as he used to be. And that’s alright. He’s earned a bit of a break, I reckon. He’s given us a lot of good years, talkin’ about cars and drivers and all that racin’ stuff. He’s a legend, that Martin Brundle. Even if he ain’t at every race no more.
And let’s be honest, those young folks they got fillin’ in for him, they ain’t the same. They don’t have that same spark, that same way of gettin’ folks to talk. They’re tryin’ hard, I guess, but they ain’t Martin. Nobody is.
So that’s the long and short of it, as best as I can tell ya. He ain’t gone for good, just takin’ it a bit easier. And who can blame him? Racin’ is a tough business, even when you ain’t the one drivin’ the cars. It takes a toll on ya. So let the man have his rest, and be thankful for the times he does show up. ‘Cause when he does, it’s always somethin’ special.
And that’s all I gotta say about that. Don’t go botherin’ me with more questions now, I got things to do. Go watch the races, enjoy the show, and appreciate the folks that make it happen, even if they ain’t there every single time.
